COMPLETE DENTURES

Full dentures or complete dentures are used to replace a full arch of missing teeth, enabling proper function for eating while creating a beautiful smile. These dentures are retained in the mouth by suction to the soft tissue/gums. Full dentures are able to be removed for simple daily cleaning. It is recommended that your dentures are checked and cleaned annually by your denturist to prevent any unnecessary issues.

PARTIAL DENTURES

A removable partial denture is designed to replace one or more missing teeth. These dentures are fabricated with acrylics, a metal/acrylic combination or flexible thermoplastics. Generally, for temporary replacement of missing teeth, acrylic partials are created. A cast partial denture is most common and provides a more rigid, secure, permanent style of the partial denture. Partial dentures should be removed before bed for optimum oral health.

Partial dentures are attached or anchored to your own existing natural teeth. Generally consisting of gingival toned acrylic bases with a metal framework and clasps for retention. These clasps can sometimes be customized to match your existing tooth shade for a seamless smile. Partial dentures can also include precision attachments or implants in some cases where best retention is needed and also achieves the best aesthetic results since clasping would no longer be needed for retention.

Flexible partials do not contain the metal framework or have any visible clasps. They can quite often be a nice solution for unique situations and an alternative to a flipper. A variety of partial dentures are available with newer designs, materials and techniques, partials are more comfortable than ever before and are very visually pleasing; some of which have no visible clasps and are virtually undetectable.

The metal is either highly compatible chrome cobalt alloy or titanium, which are both ultra-thin, light and very strong. The flexible thermoplastics have the advantages of aesthetics and flexibility. All partials are designed to be removable and should be removed nightly to contribute to a healthy oral environment.

The type of partial denture needs to be considered for fit, aesthetics, comfort and ease of adding additional teeth. A consultation with your denturist will determine the best options available for you. Over time, adjustments to your partial denture may be needed. As a person ages, their mouth naturally changes and bone and tissues can recede.  All adjustments should be made by your denturist. Your partial denture should also be checked and cleaned annually by your denturist.

Partial dentures do not harm remaining natural teeth. A partial denture may prevent your natural teeth from shifting or drifting into the space left by the loss of a natural tooth. In fact, a partial denture may help maintain the position of your natural teeth by providing them with additional support, similar to that of a retainer.

With a partial denture, you will look better, feel better and chew better!

IMMEDIATE DENTURES

Immediate dentures are an excellent solution to avoiding the situation of being without teeth at any time. Our denturist will take impressions of your natural teeth prior to any extractions. We then fabricate your denture(s) prior to having any teeth extracted. We can keep a very similar look to your natural teeth or make any necessary changes or modifications which we discuss during your appointment. Your immediate dentures are then inserted immediately after your extractions. This allows for optimum healing, the immediate dentures help act as a bandaid, allowing for immediate function and great aesthetic results.

After the procedure is completed, you’ll be provided with basic post-operative instructions. During the healing process, it is common for tissues to recede and so minor denture adjustments will be made. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled for you to ensure the best fit and maximum comfort during this time.

Over the next few months, bone and gum tissue will continue to shrink slightly, however, this rate of change decreases over time. This is a natural occurrence and is no cause for alarm, at this time you may find your dentures feel looser. We will place a temporary liner to substitute for the resorption of bone and tissues. After the healing process, a reline, or rebase to your immediate dentures will ensure the best results with the best fit. A new set of dentures can also be made at this point if opted. We will take every step necessary to ensure a happy and healthy smile!
